Meet

Tyler Menzer, CPA

Tyler Menzer is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Iowa, graduating in 2024. His research involves examining the taxes and investor behavior around cryptocurrency and digital assets as well as international taxation and profit shifting. He currently works with the IRS examining tax reporting of cryptocurrencies and has presented his research at the IRS, Office of Financial Research, U.S. Treasury’s Office of Technical Assessment, The American Accounting Association Annual Meeting, The American Taxation Association Mid-year Meeting, the UCSB-ECON Defi Seminar, The IRS-TPC Research Conference and to staff at the Joint Committee on Taxation. His work has been accepted at the Journal of the American Tax Association and featured in articles at the Cointelegraph, Marketwatch, Tax Notes, FinReg Blog,  and on the Tax Chats podcast.

 

Before starting on his academic journey, Tyler obtained his CPA (Inactive) in Wisconsin and worked for 5 years at CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP (Formerly Schenck SC) as a Senior Tax Accountant. He specialized in international taxation, partnerships, and the then burgeoning cryptocurrency tax field. He worked with small to mid-sized business and individual clients to help prepare tax returns, respond to audits, and implement tax planning.
